This classic Jerry Matthew’s design surrounds the golfer with natural beauty and spectacular views. The front nine features a beautiful parkland setting with acres of mowed grass, which allows a smooth transition into the woods and creeks of the back nine. Host of Michigan’s amateur championship for several years, The Dells is truly a fair and fun test of golf.

The course is truly a hidden gem. I have been playing the course for about 20 years. I’ve played many of the area’s top courses and put Antrim at the top of my list for course to play in Michigan. The staff is courteous and respectful. If you haven’t played Antrim, you haven’t played Michigan golf. It’s all there in one great golf course.

This is a great course to play. Generally not busy because of the location. The course offers an interesting layout. The first 9 holes allow the golfer to swing more freely without worrying about accuracy, while the back nine has a lot tighter fairways and a lot of hazards to deal with. It’s a great mixture for the golfer.

Since it’s opening in 2000, Black Lake has received many national awards and rankings. The 2009-2010 Golf Digest has selected Black Lake as #34 in their rankings of “100 Greatest Publlic courses in the United States”.
Black Lake Golf Club is an 18 hole public golf course designed by nationally acclaimed architect Rees Jones, most known for his restoration work on many US Open courses.

And while 2020 has drastically reduced date night it was such a holiday treat to be together for some special time away before #2 shows up and the hustle of the next few weeks swoops us up. ⠀

Our marriage is far from perfect, but I'm really freaking proud of it. Because we work at it. I grew up with an incredible example of partnership and I firmly believe that is a big part in what makes me mildly obsessive about non stop communication / time just the two of us. ⠀

We've had some wild adventures together. Shared a hostel room in Switzerland with a group of 10 guys on a snowboarding trip, took an overnight train around Europe with strangers in our sleeper car, driven across the country multiple times in our tiny little Volkswagen (best car ever). ⠀

We've camped in the back country of Grand Teton NP, we've had a drink on Brad Paisley's on stage bar at a music festival, we've been dog sledding across the UP, but the greatest adventure of all is our normal, very regular, very boring at times life, on a tiny 10 acre farm raising up a bunch of blonde headed babes. ⠀

Off we go!! ✈️ The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of emotions as we eagerly awaited a last passport renewal to arrive and had about 3,247,794 alternate plans in play, but alas the passport arrived yesterday in time to make our flight to Athens 🇬🇷
We’re excited to be heading out again on some epic adventures across the pond. We don’t yet even know all our destinations yet as we’re keeping a super duper close eye on covid. If at anytime we feel unsafe or that we’re trying to force travel we will come home. Simple as that. But, in the meantime we hope Greece is ready for us and that we didn’t under pack! 🧳...
If you've ever lived in Michigan, you've probably heard of or maybe even found Petoskey stones. And if not, consider me honored to introduce you to them.
Petoskey stones are pieces of extinct, fossilized coral from 300+ million years ago, back when this part of the world was covered by a warm, inland sea. Each dark spot represents an individual animal (its "mouth," specifically)! You can find Petoskey stones mostly around the city of Petoskey, Michigan, in the northwest corner of the lower peninsula, although they're also found elsewhere.
These fossils helped get me into geology/Michigan science, and I made a YouTube video about them a while back if you want to learn more. But the current news is: Petoskey stone stickers are now a thing that exist in the world, and I love them. ☺️

This week has been really really hard. Almost three years ago my aunt left this earth and grief if tricky, because in this last week, the brokenness and pain from losing her has taken me down. So today, in the darkness, I went to my safe place, to try to find peace. I didn’t find much peace, and I didn’t find many blues or agates, but I did write a chapter of my book and I did breathe a little bit. Grief isn’t linear, grief is a fucking mess (pardon my French but I believe it truly is that extreme!) I miss my aunt so much, I wish she was here to visit with and hug, I wish I could text her and read her “I love you, niece”… So we keep keeping on, through the dark and through the pain, we find little joys like handfuls of blues and agates, like banter and laughter with my girl, like little afternoon trips with the kids to the county fair…we have to do what we can do to find the light in the dark. Sorry I don’t have anything profound to say today, but here’s to brighter tomorrows while we still remember how important it is to feel.

Summer solstice has come and gone. Bucket lists are in full swing and weekends that have been a year in the making with friends and family are well underway. Just remember, don’t forget to pause, soak it all in and intentionally spend some time in a no wake zone.
Our midwestern habits tend to squeeze so much into these warmer months that summer can feel like it’s slipping away just as it begins but look how beautiful it is when you seek slow moments. The theme of our trip to Michigan this week is “odd lodging” or L’odd’ging, if you will. 🏡 The coastal city of Charlevoix is home to several historic mushroom style houses both big and small. We spent the evening in an original mushroom house that has been renovated and reimagined - complete with several cozy fireplaces and enough beds to sleep up to 14 people. 💙The hobbit-style home was designed by famous architect Earl Young in 1918 and boasts a thatch roof that was made in Europe before it was sent straight to the US to be installed here. 🌿 It might not have been Middle Earth but it sure felt like the closest we could get to it in real life!
